Gumby and Pokey as they appear in the 1990s.

Gumby is an Italian Greyhound and could be the Italian Stallone.  He was a breeder dog and “enjoys” anything that stands still for a couple seconds.  Yes, he is fixed but he is not going down without a fight!!  Kalina wants to know why this dog does a funny dance — mom’s response Ah!!!! that is what he does!

He is very friendly and is nothing like Mea (my Italian Greyhound) who is really shy and skidish.  He has white hair and I found out the other day that he can get sun burned if he is outside too long.  So he is out for a couple minutes than back in the A/C.

To continue with the fun things at the Vavra house, here is Reese!  She is a Bassett Hound/Beagle mix.  I found here in my front lawn last week.  I took her to the Norfolk City Pound on Saturday morning thinking if someone has lost her that is where they would look.  I told the gal at the pound to call me if no one claims her.  So Tuesday morning I get a phone call that she had not been claimed and to come and get her.  So she is now back at my house!  She is a great dog - she is shaped like a Bassett Hound but the personality of a Beagle.  She always has to be in the same room.

This afternoon the kids were in the sprinkler until they found a mudd hole at the end of the driveway!  They made a dam so the water would not be able to go into the street then they played with the mud!!!  They had fun!

We went to Crete this weekend and Joel (my father in law) had his company summer picnic out at Eagle Raceway.  We had a fun time.  Loel liked the cars but not when they crashed!  Kalina made sure to dance inbetween each race as they played music.  Enjoy the pictures!

Here is Kalina with her new bike.  She is wearing those socks so if she falls she will not hurt her legs.  She rode all day with them on!!!  Me and my next door neighbor were laughing so hard when she came out.  This one may come back to haunt her!!!

Many people called to wish me Happy Birthday, thank you for that.  As the calls were coming in the question that was asked the most was “What are you doing for your birthday?” and a couple calls where someone was screaming into the phone and I was called a monkey - anyways - I had to ponder on that birthday question and it got me thinking!

1st birthday (1977 for me)- probably the BEST birthday you can ever have — but you don;t remember it!!!

then comes the BIG 10 birthday (double digits) (1986)- you have a couple friends over for a sleepover and discuss what year it will be when you are 16!!!  Gosh that will be awesome!

then 16 (1992) comes and you have to sit in the car with a strange person who tells you where to go and has an “emergency” brake on their side of the car (drivers ed).  But then you get your license and off you go looking forward to being 18!!!

then comes 18 (1994) — graduation, voting priveledges, and moving off to college in the real world!

then comes 21 (1997) — can anyone remember what happened on that birthday?

22,23,24,25,26,27,28,29 – movies, romatic dinners, and each year realizing 30 is only around the corner — AAAAaaaa

then comes 30 (2006) !!  what now, no party just a reminder that you are one of those “old” people that you once made fun of.

So at 32 (200 8) what did I do to celebrate my birthday, I went to work, played with the kids all afternoon outside, then sat down with a “beverage” and scrapbooked!!!  Just another day in the neighborhood — just a couple more phone calls to wish me happy birthday!!!!

Now that is some deep thoughts by Jennifer at 32!

Kalina finally is riding her bike with no training wheels.  We were a little concerned since she would cry everytime she was on the bike.  Hopefully it is down hill from here!!!!

Mea finally got her collar that was custom made for her.  It is a soft collar since she has such a skinny neck and wide chest.  A lady actually makes these collar for these dogs.  I had to send her the measurements and what type of color I wanted it.  I think purple looks good on her!!!  Now we just need to get the leash out and teach her how to walk with us!  Mea is an Italian Greyhound.  One of the pictures she is sleeping and you see her tongue hanging out.  She had to have all of her teeth pulled when she arrived at the rescue since they were all rotten.  So since she does not have teeth she does not have anything to hold her tongue in her mouth when she sleeps.
